Rescue teams came to the aid of an Emirati man stranded on a mountain top in Ras Al Khaimah. Police received a report on Wednesday that the 36-year-old was unable to get down from the rugged summit of Al Jeer mountain. Ras Al Khaimah Police teamed up with the National Search and Rescue Centre to bring the hiker to safety with the support of community-spirited residents. “The site was evaluated by the rescue team and the stranded man was rescued with the help of the local residents who managed to reach the man and bring him back to safety,” said the centre in a statement. The man was found to be in good health. Earlier this month, mountain rescue groups warned hikers of the dangers of organising trips during the UAE’s extreme summer heat. Experts said high temperatures could lead to rapid dehydration and even death, with one fatality already recorded in Sharjah this year. Last month, three Emiratis were flown to safety after suffering from heat exhaustion while walking in Ras Al Khaimah. In May, Dubai resident Mohamad Hajjar, 35, from Lebanon, was found dead by search and rescue teams in the mountainous area of Khor Fakkan. Navigating through some areas can also be a challenge, with similar topography making it more difficult for hikers to keep track of their location.
