Private school teachers in Dubai are to participate in the first well-being census for staff in the city.
More than 120 schools have committed to taking part in the survey in an effort to improve the working environment for teachers.
Earlier this week, The National wrote about a support group, Teacher Socials, designed to help teachers struggling with debt, stress and depression.
Now school principals are also being encouraged to take steps to improve the well-being of their staff by inviting them to complete the new census.
“For the first time, school principals and teachers will take part in a city-wide census as part of move to enhance well-being of Dubai’s education community,” Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), which is conducting the survey, announced.
The survey, which will begin this year, will cover over 20,000 school teachers and staff in Dubai.
Teachers will be asked about their experiences at work as well as their feelings on hours, workload and support structures.
Staff will also be able to discuss their working relationships with colleagues and mention if they feel isolated or drained.
One of the questions asks teachers if they feel they receive the right amount of support from senior staff if struggling.
“The study will cover over 20,000 school teachers and staff in Dubai and is a first-step towards looking at the well-being of the whole school community,” KHDA said.
