SHARJAH // A 31-year-old Egyptian motorist died on Thursday after two lorries crashed into each other on the Masafi-Al Dhaid Road in the central region of Sharjah, police said.
The command centre in the central region was alerted to the accident at 4.45am.
Police patrols, civil defence and support from Al Dhaid Municipality were dispatched to the location to help put out the ensuing fire.
Col Ahmad bin Darwish said a lack of attention on the road, especially from lorry drivers, was the main cause, as it is in many cases.
“Truck drivers don’t concentrate on the road. They also fail to leave a safe distance between the vehicles, which leads to human loss in these tragic accidents,” he said.
Col Darwish urged motorists to abide by speed limits and not to be distracted while driving. He also called on residents and motorists not to hinder police and emergency crews by parking and watching emergency crews at accident scenes.
