A man died onboard a flight from Sharjah to a city in northern India on Tuesday. The passenger was travelling from the emirate to Lucknow on IndiGo Flight 6E 1412 when they fell ill. The plane made an emergency landing in Karachi, Pakistan. IndiGo, a budget airline, said the passenger suffered a "medical emergency" and could not be revived. They were declared dead on arrival by the airport medical team. The Airbus A320 took off from Sharjah at 1.50am and landed in Karachi three hours later. The flight resumed its journey to Lucknow at 8.30am. The body of the passenger, believed to be an Indian man, has since been repatriated. Strict safety rules currently govern flights to India from the UAE and the rest of the Middle East to curb the spread of Covid-19 strains. All passengers, including children, must undergo molecular tests on arrival in India. The passengers must pay for these tests themselves. Travellers are also required to present the negative result of a PCR test taken no more than 72 hours before their flight. Passengers from South Africa, Brazil, the UK and other parts of Europe are also subject to the new regulations.
