Thousands of Pakistanis in UAE are set to be repatriated, as 24 more flights have been scheduled from Tuesday until end of May.

A 10-day schedule was released by the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resources Development, which listed flight details from May 22 to May 31.

More than 60,000 Pakistanis in the UAE registered with the Consulate General of Pakistan in Dubai to return home.

As of May 15, a total of 5,883 citizens had been repatriated on 26 special Pakistan International Airlines flights.

The consulate told The National one flight will depart on Tuesday from Dubai and another will take off from Abu Dhabi on May 21.

However, the consulate warned citizens that all flights are “subject to change due to operational reasons and procedures”.

Those who wish to return are required to submit their request to the consulate. They will be contacted by officials and will be informed on how to move forward with purchasing the flight tickets.

Only PIA is selling the tickets and the consulate has previously warned citizens against scam artists pretending to be "special agents” selling false tickets.

On the whole, Pakistan is ramping up its repatriation operation. More than 10,000 citizens will be brought back from 47 countries this month.

Who are the Soroptimists?

The first Soroptimists club was founded in Oakland, California in 1921. The name comes from the Latin word soror which means sister, combined with optima, meaning the best.

The organisation said its name is best interpreted as ‘the best for women’.

Since then the group has grown exponentially around the world and is officially affiliated with the United Nations. The organisation also counts Queen Mathilde of Belgium among its ranks.
