SHARJAH // Traffic control units impounded 38 vehicles driven by reckless young motorists during illegal gatherings and rallies during the first week of a traffic campaign launched by Sharjah Police.
The offenders endangered their lives as well as others’ and hindered traffic movement on Nazwa Al Madam Road, which has come to be known as “Monster Road“.
Another 350 motorists were fined for traffic violations varying from unjustified parking in the middle of the road to unlicenced modification of the vehicle’s engine and driving noisy vehicles.
Col Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer, director general of Central Operations at the Sharjah Police, warned young motorists against breaking traffic rules and participating in reckless activities and behaviour as soon as the weather improves. He added that any recurrence of such violations will intensify the sanctions, up to confiscating the vehicles used in these illegal and unsafe activities if the need arises.
The ongoing campaign will cover the different regions and roads where motorists have a habit of carrying out reckless activities, namely Maliha Road which has recently been the scene of numerous speeding accidents that claimed several young lives.
