SHARJAH // A child and a woman have died from the injuries they sustained in a bus crash in Kalba this week.
The deaths brings the total to three from the accident after a child died at the scene in Wadi Al Helo on Wednesday.
The second child died on Friday after suffering severe burns in the crash, while the woman succumbed to her injuries and passed away on Saturday, an official at Fujairah Hospital said.
Twenty-three people were injured in the crash, when a bus flipped on to its side before it burst into flames at 7am on Wednesday.
The child was receiving treatment in the intensive care unit at the hospital before succumbing to his injuries, said Khamis Sinan, director of Fujairah hospital, who did not disclose the boy’s age.
“On Saturday, a woman from the bus crash died after succumbing to her severe injuries. In total, we received three individuals from the accident. Now we have only a child receiving treatment in the hospital and [the child] remains in a critical condition,” said the director.
The initial accident report indicated that the bus swerved out of its lane and crashed into a concrete road divider. The vehicle was completely burnt out, police said.
Emergency crews transported 20 of the injured passengers to Kalba Hospital and three were referred to Fujairah Hospital.
