A globe-trotting UAE policeman is flying the flag for the Year of Zayed - after completing a hat-trick of mammoth mountain climbs in a matter of months.
Ahmed Zein Al Yafei, an airport security officer with Dubai Police, has done plenty of jet-setting of his own in order to reach the top of three of the highest peaks in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, during 2018.
The determined officer had already scaled Oman's highest mountain, Jebel Shams and Africa's most formidable challenge, Mount Kilimanjaro earlier in the year, but that was far from the summit of his ambitions.
Al Yafei has now conquered another continent after climbing atop Mount Elbrus in Russia, the highest peak in Europe at an energy-sapping 5,642 metres.
The young police officer unfurled flags representing the Year of Zayed and Dubai Police after completing his latest quest.
He was forced to battle snowstorms and strong winds during the gruelling six-day trek, and faced breathing difficulties due to a lack of oxygen.
As well as climbing mountains, the intrepid policeman found time to distribute gifts during his Kilimanjaro climb and shared the message of the Year of Zayed with members of the public.
Brig Gen Mohammed Ahmed bin Dylan Al Mazrouei, acting director general of airport security, hailed Al Yafei's achievements and praised him for bringing the Year of Zayed to new parts of the world.
