UAE weather: Forecasters warn more fog is expected this week

Heavy fog will continue to cover interior and coastal areas with visibility reduced to less than 500 meters in some places.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCMS) said similar conditions could last in the UAE for the next two days.

“The high levels of humidity along the coast and light wind could cause fog to form during the early morning and night,” said Mohammed Al Khaja, weather forecaster at the centre.

Humidity is expected to reach 95 per cent across coastal and interior regions, increasing at night and in the early morning across internal and coastal areas.

“Over the past few days, fog started to descend across the country by 8pm to 9pm, and continues until around 10:30am. Similar weather conditions and dense fog during this particular time of the year have been experienced by UAE residents over the past years,” said Mr Al Khaja.

The fog has caused traffic problems and flight delays or diversions.

Fog was reported this morning over Abu Dhabi airport, Al Bateen airport, Ras Al Khaimah airport and Al Shawamekh area. Patches of fog were also reported over Sheikh Zayed road, Al Habab road in Jabal Ali, Al Ain road and Sharjah last night.

Mr Al Khaja urged motorists not to drive at night. “Drivers are urged not drive at night and I urge those who have to drive during this time of the day to abide by traffic rules, leave safe distance and reduce their speed,” he said.

Fog formation is expected to gradually decrease on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the weather on Monday is forecast to be cloudy and hazy at times.

Winds will be light to moderate, with coastal and inland areas experiencing winds up to 32 kilometres an hour.

Temperatures will range from 12°C to 27°C along the coast and 08°C to 29°C in the interior regions, according to NCMS.

The sea will be slight to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea.

How Islam's view of posthumous transplant surgery changed

Transplants from the deceased have been carried out in hospitals across the globe for decades, but in some countries in the Middle East, including the UAE, the practise was banned until relatively recently.

Opinion has been divided as to whether organ donations from a deceased person is permissible in Islam.

The body is viewed as sacred, during and after death, thus prohibiting cremation and tattoos.

One school of thought viewed the removal of organs after death as equally impermissible.

That view has largely changed, and among scholars and indeed many in society, to be seen as permissible to save another life.
