Women get 15 years for murder

DUBAI // Two women were sentenced yesterday to 15 years in prison for stabbing a man to death at his apartment in March last year. The women, N J, 25, and JR, 22, from Pakistan, told the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance that they killed the man, MM, from Bangladesh, after he forced them to have sex with him. Both denied premeditated murder with intent to rob. Prosecutors said police found cash, two cheques, a laptop computer and the victim's mobile phone in the possession of the defendants, who maintained that those things belonged to them.

The court was told by the police officer leading the investigation that the two women stabbed their victim in various parts of his body using two knives they found at the apartment in Naif. Later, they led police to a sandy area in Ghusais where they buried the body. Both claimed initially that they buried the knives close to the victim's apartment in Naif but later showed police the burial site on the Dubai-Sharjah border.
