Position | Geo-economics Editor |

The National is looking for a Geo-economics Editor to produce and oversee our macroeconomic coverage, focusing in particular on the way macroeconomics, geopolitics and business intersect in the Mena region and beyond. As well as writing and producing your own stories, the successful candidate will have a leadership role guiding reporters to make their stories stronger with added context of the wider economic background. Candidates should have a deep knowledge of economics and be firmly across business sectors including technology, finance, property and energy in the region and the geopolitical connections between them. You will need a deep understanding of regional economies and the ability to identify leads, developments and topics for analysis from English and ideally Arabic language sources. Candidates should have at least five years’ journalism experience of writing and editing with a reputable business or news title and a network of contacts to inform your work. Experience in data and multimedia journalism and Arabic language skills are an advantage. The job is office-based in Abu Dhabi. The National, the Middle East’s leading quality news organisation, is looking for a data journalist to join our data visualisation team. Candidates should have a proven ability to identify stories from data and then to tell those stories through attractive, compelling data visualisation. We are looking for self-starters with a passion for crunching numbers and converting them using data visualisation techniques into must-see content. A keen interest in and understanding of the news agenda in the Middle East is a strong advantage. You must have newsroom experience working in data journalism. Candidates should be proficient in relevant tools and applications. The successful candidate will report to our head of data visualisation journalism and work closely with our other data journalists, our infographic artists and our design team. You would also work with the rest of our Abu Dhabi newsroom and our bureaux in London, Washington DC, Beirut and Cairo as well as our correspondents elsewhere in the Mena region and beyond. |
