We are looking for a Senior Data Visualisation Journalist to join our new data and forensic team. This
role is perfect for a data-driven storyteller eager to work on impactful investigations, create
compelling narratives, and enhance digital storytelling through innovative visualizations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with editors and reporters to uncover and develop data-driven stories
- Analyse, clean, and visualize data to produce engaging content for The National’s digital
platforms
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of data-driven reporting through rigorous fact-checking
- Create and pitch original data investigations, introducing fresh, innovative ideas
- Work closely with designers and developers to craft interactive visual stories
- Provide news insights and context on major events through data analysis
- Contribute to The National’s social media strategy with tailored data visualisations
- Uphold journalistic ethics and best practices in all reporting
Key Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Data Science, or a related field
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in data journalism
- Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, and data visualization tools (Flourish, Tableau, D3.js, Adobe
Illustrator)
- Experience with HTML or custom CMS platforms is preferred
- Strong analytical skills and ability to simplify complex data for broad audiences
- Fluency in English (Arabic is a plus)
- Proven expertise in data storytelling, with a strong portfolio
The successful candidate will report to the Head of Data Visualisation Journalism and work within a
busy team in our vibrant newsroom.
