Coronavirus: Boris Johnson thanks medics for saving his life

Boris Johnson has thanks the heath workers who saved his life as he spends a seventh night in hospital.

The British prime minister was admitted to hospital last Sunday and this week spend three days in intensive care due to coronavirus.

On Saturday, he told friends: "I owe them my life. I can't thank them enough."

He is presently in St Thomas' Hospital in London.

Downing Street said on Saturday that Mr Johnson was "making good progress" and had been watching films in his hospital bed.

His fiancee Carrie Symonds, who is pregnant with their first child, sent him images of their baby scans while he was in hospital.

She is presently at home recovering from symptoms of coronavirus.

Mr Johnson’s father, Stanley, has said he feels a huge sense of “relief” and urged his son to rest up after he left intensive care on Thursday after testing positive for the coronavirus.

Stanley Johnson said his family were “amazingly grateful” for the National Health Service and all the support for his son.

The prime minister may take weeks to recover. Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab is acting as a stand in leader until Boris Johnson is well enough to return to work.

"He has to take time. I cannot believe you can walk away from this and get straight back to Downing Street and pick up the reins without a period of readjustment,” said his father.
