British comic and actor Bill Bailey is coming to Dubai Opera next February. Known for his esoteric comedy style blending whimsical humour with music, Bailey will perform at the Downtown Dubai venue on February 4, 2022. The show should be a real boon for British comedy fans. Over a nearly four-decade career, Bailey's talents have spanned stand-up comedy gigs, musical performances and television appearances. Bailey, 56, began his show business career in the early 1980s by forming the comedy double act The Rubber Bishops, alongside British actor Toby Longworth. The group's predilection for mixing music, stand-up and acting formed the basis for Bailey's expansive solo career. In 1995, he launched his debut one-man show Bill Bailey: Cosmic Jam, which went on to be recorded as a television special broadcast in 1997. After an accumulation of sold-out national tours, Bailey solidified his reputation after winning the Best Live Stand-Up category of the 1999 British Comedy Awards. Bailey also built a strong career in television courtesy of scene-stealing roles, including as Manny in the sitcom Black Books, as well as regular appearances on variety shows such as Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Have I Got News for You and QI. Bailey also broke new ground last year by becoming the oldest winner, aged 55, of the British version of the popular dance competition Strictly Come Dancing. He is presently in the midst of a UK and Irish tour with shows planned at the Cambridge Junction on Tuesday, South Street in Reading on Friday, and the Gleneagle INEC Arena in Killarney, Ireland on Saturday, September 25. The event in Dubai will adhere to strict Covid-19 guidelines, including mask-wearing and social distancing. Proof of vaccination will not be required. Bill Bailey at Dubai Opera is on Friday, February 4, 2022.
