The husband of a Dubai resident who went missing in the Maldives 11 days ago put up a $100,000 (Dh370,000) reward for information on his wife's whereabouts.

Canadian citizen Giedre Vaskyte, 33, was eight months pregnant when she disappeared from the Intercontinental Resort on Maamunagau Island on February 13, a day after checking in.

Her husband, Parmar Gursharanjit Singh, said they were relaxing by the pool shortly before Ms Vaskyte headed to the beach, alone, for a swim.

After a five day search, police concluded that she likely drowned at sea, but family members are pushing for more answers in regards to her mysterious vanishing.

A relation of the couple told the Khaleej Times they believe Ms Vaskyte may have been abducted.

“That is why we are putting a reward of $100,000 for anyone who can give information about her, or help us find her,” said Uday Singh.

In a statement to The National on Wednesday, a media representative from the Maldives Police said she was first reported missing at about 9pm on February 13.

"A 33-year-old Canadian citizen was reported missing after she went swimming at around [7pm] that night," he said.

"A joint search operation was carried out by the Maldives National Defence Force, police, and resort staff.

"The Maldives National Defence Force carried out the search operation, non-stop, for five days, including an aerial search, surface search and diving.

"Our Investigation team has obtained strong evidence to believe she was lost in the sea and we do not have any evidence to think otherwise."

The hotel said it was continuing to work closely with local authorities on the case.
